SOMETHING ELSE is a concert series for improvised music focused on new meetings of musicians from across Helsinki's free improv, experimental, jazz, electronic, and global music scenes, hosted on the 4th Thursday of each month at Kallio's Musta Kissa bar. New small-ensemble groupings--often first-time meetings--are highlighted each time, with an emphasis on surprise, difference, curiosity, energy, and connection.

About:

KENJI PÉREZ NAGANO is a Mexican musician and electronic music producer. His primary instruments are Transversal Flute and Bansuri (Indian Flute). While drawing influences from Folk music from Latin America, and Indian classical music he started his carrier as an electronic music producer in Berlin where he studied sound design in Psychedelic and Techno. Recently he is part of Jaranas del Norte in Finland, in collaboration with K'u'um Collective promoting Son Jarocho (Mexican Folk) as a Jaranero and singer.

VICTORIA SOFIA is a Helsinki-based cellist and multidisciplinary musician from Mexico working across classical music, traditional genres, and contemporary expression through collaborative performance. Her artistic practice focuses on creative experimentation, and shared musical experiences.

AMADO PEÑA is a poet, translator, and transmedia artist. With a background in Hispanic Language and Literature and specializations in Cultural Management, and Mexican Literature in Indigenous Languages, his practice unfolds across writing, performance, and material experimentation.
